Ride-hailing apps, maps, mobile boarding passes, restaurant bookings: in the United States almost everything runs on your phone. Roaming with a European plan can quickly become expensive, and buying a local prepaid SIM means finding a shop after a long flight. A USA eSIM is the simplest option.

01 / THE GUIDEHow a USA eSIM works

You buy your eSIM United States online, receive the QR code by email and install it before you fly. When you land, switch on the eSIM line and data roaming: you can connect to a supported local network, depending on coverage and your device, with your usual number still active for calls and SMS.

02 / THE GUIDEHow much data do you need?

  • City break (5–7 days): estimate from your own data use; maps, messaging and video need different budgets.
  • Road trip (2 weeks): include navigation, streaming and your trip duration in the calculation.
  • Remote work: include your video calls and laptop downloads; choose a volume and validity that match your work schedule.

03 / THE GUIDEVisiting Canada or Mexico too?

For a trip that crosses borders — a New York–Toronto route or a stay in Cancún — the North America eSIM (USA, Canada, Mexico) covers all three countries with one plan. Single-country plans are also available: Canada eSIM and eSIM Mexico.

05 / THE GUIDEFAQ

Can I call US numbers with a data-only eSIM?

Use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any VoIP app over data. For traditional calls, keep your main SIM active (roaming rates from your operator apply).

Does it work in national parks?

Coverage depends on local networks: in remote areas of national parks it can be limited, as with any US operator. Download offline maps before you go.

PRACTICAL ANSWERSFrequently asked questions

Does a USA data eSIM include a US phone number?

Do not assume that a data-only plan includes a local number, traditional call minutes or SMS. Read the selected offer. Internet-based communication apps use data; calls from your usual line can still incur your operator’s charges.

Should I choose a USA plan or a North America plan?

Choose the USA eSIM for a trip whose required coverage is the United States. For an itinerary including Canada or Mexico, compare the North America eSIM and check every country, data allowance and validity period before purchasing.

How much data should I allow for a two-week trip?

Use your recent mobile-data history and adjust for video, navigation and tethering. As a planning example, 500 MB a day over fourteen days gives 7 GB before a margin. Your own consumption can differ substantially.

Can I rely on mobile reception in remote areas?

No plan guarantees reception everywhere. Check the selected offer and keep important addresses and available maps offline. A phone showing a supported country does not imply continuous coverage at every stop on a road trip.
